Activities

Each project and example of main activities in 2010 are as follows; percentage shown below accounts for portion out of total expenditure in fiscal year 2010.

International Cooperation (36%):

To abolish and prevent Child Labour and to support children’s education, we implement “Child Friendly Village”project in India,“SMIAL-Ghana”project in cocoa- grown area in Ghana and “PEACE-India”project in cotton grown area in Southern India. We plan and implement projects with the local NGOs with the participation of local community members including children.

Awareness Raising (10%):

Giving lectures, producing and lending teaching materials, organizing workshop and Charity Football games, as well as holding or attending other events.

Advocacy (10%):

Giving lectures or holding seminars at companies about prevention of Child Labour through CSR, and conducting CSR consulting and putting influence on government policies and citizens’groups for further actions against Child Labour.

Alliance Building (6%):

Secretariat for The Japan Child Labour Network(CL-Net), Steering Committee member of The NGO-Trade Union International Collaboration Forum, and many other networks.

Social Business (26%):

Selling Fair Trade products and original goods, fundraising through cooperation with companies and other groups, raising members and supporters, collecting donations, “BAG TO THE FUTURE” campaign (collecting used brand-name goods).

Public Relations (6%):

Sending e-mail magazines, putting out information through website,blog and twitter, and publishing printed materials such as yearly reports.

Major Achievements

  • Saved 328 children from Child Labour and supported education for 1,023 children in India and Ghana through International Cooperation Project, Field Program.

  • Organized events and seminars about child labour (approx. 6,800 participants in 2010).
  • Acted as the secretariat for The Child Labour Network (CL-Net) and organized campaign events annually (24 events participated by around 10,000 participants, 200,036 signatures gathered and submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2010).
  • Sold about 10,000 Ladybird Chocolates to support children in cocoa program area in Ghana.
  • Received an order for CSR consulting and conducted CSR review in a process of material procurement of apparel makers.
  • Committee member of Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Social Responsibility for Sustainable Future (2009~), Chief administrator for global issues working group in CSR Round Table (2010) .
  • Published a book about Child Labour ”I am 8 years old, I don’t want to work anymore”(Godo-Shuppan, 2007).
